Fairfield County Resident Hopes To Get Back On Her Horse Thanks To Lymbr

Lucia will never know for sure what caused her beloved palomino mare Butterscotch to be extra jumpy that day in February 2016. But the Fairfield County resident’s skill wasn’t enough when her horse bucked at the sound of a truck backfiring and Lucia landed on the frozen ground of a trail she rode regularly in Bedford, N.Y.

A passerby found Lucia trying to crawl for help and she was taken to the hospital, where she learned that she had not only shattered her pelvis, but had three broken vertebrae and a torn hamstring as well.

Seven months post-accident, with approximately the first 16 weeks of that spent in a bed, Lucia feared the ongoing pain and weakness were her new normal.

“I was so broken,” Lucia said. “I was at a point where, at age 56, I was accepting that I would never walk normally again. And that’s when I found LYMBR.”

Lucia discovered LYMBR walking by the Norwalk-based company's Darien studio. The wellness company specializes in personalized stretches using a proprietary technique (Progressive Dynamic Stretching – PDS) involving continual movement. LYMBR began in 2016 and now operates four studios (and growing) around the country.

LYMBR’s stretch therapists, like Michael Eaton who works with Lucia, are all certified with over 100 hours of hands-on training in PDS.

“My body was so locked up from all the trauma and surgery,” Lucia said. “But even after the first session with Michael, it felt like a revelation that I might not have to walk like that anymore.”

Three months after starting at LYMBR, Lucia was walking down stairs. She still goes in for a LYMBR stretch with Michael one to two times every week.

“Working with Lucia has opened my eyes and helped me realize just how powerful this work is,” said Michael. “I get to help people who have been living in discomfort for years feel some type of relief.”

Lucia won’t be riding horses again anytime soon, but at least now she can take care of them.

“I plan to just be around the horses and take care of them until I can ride,” said Lucia. “LYMBR has made me so well that I can do that.”
